About the name
Maria Hueber (1653-1705) founded the Franciscan Tertiary Sisters. Born in Brixen/Bressanone, she grew up in a humble family. In 1700, she opened the first free school for young girls in Tyrol. The process for her beatification was initiated in 1996, and in 2019 Pope Francis recognised her heroic virtues.
